Why Software Engineering?

A year ago I was working at a wine store; handling invoices, placing orders, making the occasional delivery and learning as much as I could about grape varieties and occasionally treating myself to some Gouda. It was a fun job and I enjoyed my relationships with my customers and co-workers but ultimately I found myself craving something more intellectually stimulating. My brother had been talking to me for years(literally years) about coding boot-camps and when the pandemic began and my comfortable life working at the wine store was disrupted, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to throw myself into something new.

I spent a lot time in the spring trying out free online coding courses and I found that I enjoyed the work quite a bit. I liked the challenge of putting my code together and I loved the satisfaction when I found a solution to a problem that had frustrated me for an hour. I began working through the Flatiron Bootcamp Prep Course and I was very impressed by the course as well as the Flatiron employees I interacted with. After speaking a few times with people at Flatiron, I made the decision that the 10 month Software Engineering course would fit my interests in coding as well as my schedule. After about two weeks I am very happy with my decision and excited to see what the future holds.
